About the Collection

Des visages means “Faces” in French and is Bertie’s first collection of paintings. This style is heavily influenced by a painting in Bertie’s life growing up: a face made up of bold reds, greens, and yellows. This piece followed Bertie’s family as they moved from Quebec to British Columbia. It was made by “mon-oncle” Joey, the younger cousin of Bertie’s mother. Bertie gazed at it for hours growing up; they found it comforting and reliable. It was a constant in every new home.

Without a surprise, Bertie was influenced by this particular painting when creating Des visages. This style makes them feel connected to their family from Val d’Or, Quebec (unceded Algonquin territory). Bertie hopes that you find this collection of faces alluring and strange.
